ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al-Khalifa was appointed Ambassador by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Court by Royal decree number 66 on September the 15th, 2013. Prior to this, Ambassador Al-Khalifa served as Defense, Military, Naval and Air Attaché to United States and Canada (May 2005 to September 2013). In this capacity he was actively and continuously involved in strengthening the diplomatic relations of the Kingdom of Bahrain with the US, through engagements with Congress, US Department of Defense and State officials, NGO’s and members of defense industry. From 1998 to 2013, Ambassador Al-Khalifa was a decorated fighter pilot, rising to the rank of Colonel in the Royal Bahraini Air Force. His numerous awards attest to his contribution to Gulf Wars II and III, as a mission commander flying over Kuwait, and his accomplishments leading fighter groups in various joint military exercises on the regional and international levels.

Joining the Ambassador are Mubarak Abdulla Buti, Cultural and Educational Counselor at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Salman AlJalahma, Media Attaché at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

The Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest is Roey Gilad’s first post in the United States. Before coming to Chicago, he served in various positions outside Israel including the UK, Jordan and Kenya. The 51-year-old native Israeli is fluent in Hebrew, English, and Arabic and is knowledgeable in French. While in his native Israel, Gilad was most recently at Israel’s National Defense College and prior to that was head of the Export Control Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He holds an M.A. degree in Middle Eastern Studies and National Security from Hebrew University and a B.A. Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from Tel Aviv University.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Maen Rashid Areikat is a Palestinian diplomat and present chief of the PLO Delegation in Washington DC. He was born in Jericho, obtained a B.Sc. in finance from Arizona State University in 1983, and earned his MBA from Western International University in 1987. Mr. Areikat has worked as spokesman of the Orient House and the unofficial PLO headquarters in East Jerusalem. He joined the Palestinian National Authority's Negotiations Affairs Department (NAD) in 1999, serving as Coordinator-General of NAD from 2008 to 2009. In 2009 he was appointed chief of the PLO Delegation to the U.S.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Maged Refaat Aboulmagd is an Egyptian diplomat and is the present Consul General in Chicago. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English translation from Al Azhar University in Cairo in 1982 and a Diploma of English translation from The American University in Cairo in 1986. Consul General Aboulmagd has been a Diplomat with the Egyptian Ministy of Foreign Affairs since 1988, serving in the Egyptian Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, 1988-92; the United Nations in New York, 1994-1998; the Russian Federation in Moscow, 2000-01; the Kingdom of Bahrain, 2002-03; and the Kingdom of Belgium, 2004-08. He is also the Deputy Assistant Minister for Regional Economic Cooperation and Head of Energy Unit since September 2009.
